So call me fickle if you'd like but I've decided that keeping this blog around isn't such a bad idea. Heck, it'll be nice to have a more personal and private space to share some thoughts with my closest friends if the other, newer blog really does start to take off (and maybe even more so if it doesn't). And more news on that when I have it. I've already begun assembling a crack team of supporters back home that are working far harder than I've been (thanks Em, Tim, etc, and all you not helping that want to, lemme know).
In other news, life moves on here in Iraq. Summer's right around the corner and it's already hitting triple-digits during parts of the day. Needless to say, these are not productive parts of the day. Like I've pointed out, the Surge was about more than just more troops, but also about getting our boots on the ground out of our bigger bases and closer to the people. Unfortunately, one of the results of these smaller bases has been less stable, reliable, and more intermittent power. Our patrol bases in the country just don't have the built-up networks and generators of our fortified operating bases. And, for whatever stupid and slow reason, the Army has been slow on accepting solar power. The result: A/C's off from 12-3pm in order not to overheat the generators. Why people up high don't start looking into improving all this (and it could be a great PR bit for solar companies, too), I don't know (ahem, cough, politely directed to my congressional staffer friends).
That's it for now, friends. Hope all's well. Enjoy some ice cream or a cold beer for me and the guys.

Hey,
I just learned of this through the Washington Post - BlogTalkRadio has two blogs (I believe they are also live broadcast) hosted and sponsored by the Pentagon.
You may wish to look into what these two shows are, who exactly sponsors them and provides support, and ask your superiors to make your idea the third show in that framework. Once you get the basic logistics down, it should be possible to expand to a larger format.
Later,
Big Bro
So now that this is the VIP blog, can you give us more dish, Alex? All the stories you can't tell in the other one? Embarrassing photos of you with mustaches? Please?
Miss you.....
Well, Kelly, I've already offered you up as a sacrifice to one of my sergeants. He's a nice Jewish boy from Indiana. Or somewhere flyover. And he wants to study English literature and regularly reads The Economist. You should write to him. :-)
Yay...I'm glad you're going to continue this blog too...I like Sandpuppies ;-)
Hope you're holding up in all the heat and I think it's awesome that you're going to teach some courses. Though back when we were sitting in certain classrooms together, I would have laughed to think of you as a college professor one day!
