So the last few weeks have been awful. The absolute worst thus far during my time in Iraq.
No, there haven't been any deaths, no shooting, no real sign of active enemy activity. In truth, most of the guys spend more time worrying about their gym work-outs and finding new movies to watch than they do thinking about combat and danger. It's quiet here. And that's not a complaint.
However, we are changing commanders. Our current Captain is rotating out and a new one rotating in - it's just the way of things. In the process, we've been inventorying the millions of dollars of equipment assigned to us, including a fair bit of commo gear. Unfortunately, my paperwork has been less than perfectly updated and organized, so there's been a fair amount of frustration and anger directed to me. Especially by our XO who has become increasingly angry-Tigh as these inventories go on (he hates them too). Whatever malignant bacterium that has taken up residence in me has done little to help my mood. And I can't say my personal life's been exactly perfect of late.
So for all these reasons and more, I can't even lie and say that I've been anywhere close to enjoying myself. But last weekend I felt better. I got mail. Alot of mail. So a hearty thank you to everyone that sent something to go along with the external hard drive (a fracking external hard drive! how awesome is that?!). And thank you to everyone that's ever sent me a package or a letter. It's really much, much appreciated. And I think I speak for all of the guys when I say that it does help lighten the mood and lift our spirits every time we get mail. And today will, hopefully, be one of those days.
Thank you.

Little Bro,
I hope you got and enjoy the CD I sent.
Don't you just love paperwork?
I really need to stop putting my paperwork off as well. I think this must be another runs in the family trait.
We have never seen it, but can you imagine what dad's paperwork must be like? It's probably really sloppy and full of typeos. Dad really hates paperwork. He'd rather just stick a needle in someone, and apparently (I have heard his co-workers discuss this with near awe in their voices), he is really good at sticking people with needles. I have never heard mention of his paper work shuffling abilities from his co-workers.
Fun dark fact: For some Godly, and approps reason, our Father can find a vein without actually being able to see it. This is apparently a rare trait amongst both nurses and doctors. The one night I got to go watch him at work, I did witness a doctor come to him, ask to do the trick, and the guy actually deferred to his judgment on the matter.
I hope that gave you a chuckle.
How are you feeling?
Love,
Big Bro
