Still A Little On Edge....

"So, yeah....that could have been us."
"Yeah...we just drove over that shit yesterday. And two days before that."
"Yeah..."

That particularly shit happened to be a small blast crater sitting in the middle of a dirt bridge. The really interesting bit of scenery was the flipped and mangled remains of a flatbed pick-up truck - the bed pretty much destroyed - that sat next to the hole. Twisted pieces of metal and chunks of tire sat as far away as 150 meters in the neighboring fields. End result: one injured sheikh. His three compatriots riding with him were less lucky, though.

This sort of thing - not a common occurrence around here. Thank G-d. That said - yeah, a little unsettling. So while part of the patrol and EOD investigated the scene, Medina and I waited in our truck, spending a solid hour staring at the wreckage. Definitely some food for thought.

The good news: we were, evidently, not the target, as this was just an inter-tribal thing.
The bad news: we could've been hit by accident. Pressure plates aren't exactly all that choosey.
The best news: we're all fine and enjoying today - our scheduled off day. And if this is the worst, most dangerous thing I have to deal with over here, I can plan on attending quite a few more nights at Bryant Park. And you can plan on buying my mooching but lovable self a few more drinks and dinners. :-)
