Halloween has come and gone (I was GI Joe this year), so that means the Christmas shopping season is here. And since people are asking, I'm answering on what's good to send.
Useful stuff:
Headlamp - so I can see stuff, like radios and the portajohn.
Black dress socks - but only the really, really thin kind. also sold as sock liners.
Boots - would be the dream item (yesterday's are still wet) but I'm not sure what size I wear.
Fun stuff...
Books-Machiavelli's The Prince and The Discourses - combined, preferably. Any good biography,Any good science-fiction,Any good Middle Easternish, Muslim, Iraq-focused,Seven Pillars of WisdomCounter-insurgency/political/int'l relations blither-blather.
TV/Movies-(burned copies vastly preferred, so that I don't feel as guilty when they inevitably break):BSG - left all of mine at home,West Wing - ditto, 'cept for a little on my ipod,Lawrence of Arabia - yeah, still haven't seen itGood war/military movies - I'm behind on my references, you know I don't like feeling that way.
For the boys- Maxim magazine and calendars.
Festive Stuff-Candy canes,Any other edible decorations, Pics, etc of anything involving Columbia folk, 81Olive, or NYC.
Food-chocolate baked goods, banana bread, and anything that will keep.
And a brief note on electronic goods - 110v versus 220. American stuff - 110 - tends to smoke and burn when plugged into the 220 outlets that are Iraqi standard. Just ask the $500 printer/copier/scanner/fax machine that I fried in Kuwait. Just something to keep in mind if you're thinking of sending something that involves plugging in, as I don't have a transformer.
Hopefully this list'll keep you happy.
