So I'm a bit behind in writing, I'm afraid. Sorry about that but things have been busy and the internet has been less than reliable (but, with any luck, that'll be changing soon. ish).
Anyhoo, I'll hold off on telling you about the post-apocolyptic place where we live, or the less than perfumed smell of the the fertile crescent, or how I've come to love chai, or even the appreciative comments about my mustache from the locals - instead, I just want to let you know that I'm doing well. Very well, in fact, because I got to see a good friend the other day.
I was enjoying my post-dinner ice cream and who should I spot wandering our small chow hall but Steve Nelson, my best friend in the Army and a good buddy since Day1 of Basic Training. He's doing well and doing a good job as a gunner on one of his unit's trucks. Sadly, they're not working out of this base and it sounds like they're living alot more roughly than we are. So I'll prolly encourage you to send him the occassional something if I ever get his address.
Anyhoo, it had been a long and busy day. But there's nothing quite as good for morale as seeing a friend again, so it was quite a pick-me-up, especially to hear that he's alive and well. That's all I gotta say for now but, my friends, know that I can't wait to see all of you when I see you.
Miss you,
